Activity Title: Emotions through Art School: 2nd Primary School of Trikala, Greece School subject: Art Teacher’sname: Anastasiou Manos, Art teacher Suitable age of children: 11-12 years old Duration: 3 teaching hours
Activity stages We tried to approach emotional intelligence interactively. THE ACTIVITY-LESSON took place online, during the distance learning period. During the first two hours, time was devoted to students’ understanding the effect of emotional intelligence in one’s behavior. The concept was thoroughly developed and students understood that people are not born emotionally intelligent but they can enhance emotional intelligence through education during their childhood and adulthood. In the theoretical approach of the subject, the main areas of emotional intelligence were identified as: a) exploring our own motivation, b) recognizing other’s feelings and c) the management of our relationships. We concluded that people with high emotional intelligence have better mental health and performance in daily life. The course was enriched by visual material and images of well-known artists’ paintings that could be related to the subject as well as logos in order to activate the students' imagination and creative skills. During the third teaching hour, the students created imaginative drawings inspired by what they had heard and seen in the previous lessons.
Evaluation criteria: Although the subject was difficult and mainly theoretical, students managed to create colorful and well-designed paintings, approaching emotional intelligence from an artistic point of view.
