Activity objectives (2 or 3):
To develop pupils’ teamwork abilities
To enhance pupils’ empathy level
to help students express their emotional support towards a colleague that has a bad day
Materials needed for the activity: paper, color, tablet / slide-show software / animation software / comics software.
Activity stages:
Divide students in teams of 4-5 members.
Tell them their task as a team is to design comic strips about a fictional character named Alexander, who is a pupil just like them and who is having a very bad day at school and at home. Ask them to include pieces of advice for Alexander to make him feel better and to help him move on, in comic style bubbles.
Let them use a variety of design options, like Paint, slide-show, drawings, comic book apps.
Have the teams showcase each comic strip.
Evaluation criteria: The lesson is effective if during this activity:
pupils work in teams and each member brings his/her input to the comic strip content
each team designs a comic strip and showcases it
pupils include coping strategies and empathic comments for Alexander
